
Wingnuts Wingnuts Add Minor League All-Star Hoelscher

WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts took steps to solidify the infield on Friday, signing former Rockies minor-leaguer Shane Hoelscher for the 2017 season.
A native of Cameron, Texas, Hoelscher was selected in the 17th round of the 2014 MLB Draft by Colorado after a stellar four-year career at Rice University. Playing for legendary Head Coach Wayne Graham, Hoelscher finished his time with the Owls ranked in the program's record book in several categories, including 11th with 50 career doubles. As a senior, he was named a Third- Team All-America, when he hit .330 with 21 doubles.
Hoelscher began his professional career at short-season Tri-City, hitting .332 in 53 games, earning a promotion to Class A Asheville for the 2015 season. Hoelscher posted his best full season with the Tourists, winning the South Atlantic League batting title with a .328 average and finishing third in the circuit with 37 doubles. The infielder also chipped in 61 RBIs and 14 stolen bases, spending time as both a second and third baseman. For his efforts, Hoelscher was named a Post-Season All-Star.
2016 saw Hoelscher reach High-A Modesto, where he played in a career-best 114 games, posting a .274 average to go along with 11 home runs and 62 runs driven in. For his career, Hoelscher owns a .301 batting average in three professional seasons.
Hoelscher is the ninth player to sign with the Wingnuts for the upcoming season. American Association clubs may carry up to 28 players during spring training, which opens on May 6.
