WINGNUTS THRASH GOLDEYES
The Wichita Wingnuts put up their best offensive display of the young season on Thursday, obliterating the Winnipeg Goldeyes 19-4 in the series opener at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. Wichita opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, as Matt Chavez drilled a two-run single to center. The Wingnuts added three more in the second, as an RBI double by Christian Stringer and a Brent Clevlen two-run single made it 5-0. The home team really opened it up in the third, tacking on six, tied for the most runs the Wingnuts have scored in an inning this year. Leo Vargas picked up an RBI double, Harrison Kain an RBI triple, Chavez another two-run single, and two more runs scored on wild pitches. Kain pushed the lead to 13-0 in the fourth, adding two more with a single. Winnipeg picked up all four of their runs in the seventh, but Wichita responded with three in each of their last two innings to get to the evening's final margin. Making a spot start, Eddie Medina shined amidst all the offensive support, holding the Goldeyes to just four hits on five scoreless innings of work to pick up his first win of the season.
