Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts finalized their Opening Day roster on Wednesday, trimming the 26-man spring training roster down to the 23 who will suit up for Thursday's 2016 season opener against the Lincoln Saltdogs. The roster is littered with familiar faces to Wichita fans as 12 of the 23 have suited up for the Wingnuts in previous seasons.
To get down to 23, Wichita released catcher Tyler Brown and right-hander Robert Mosebach, and placed lefty Santos Rodriguez on the inactive list.
Of the 12 players returning from previous seasons to Wichita, six are pitchers and six are position players. The six pitchers include veteran starters Anthony Capra, Tim Brown, and Jon Link, as well as Alex Boshers, Eddie Medina, and Frankie Reed.
On the position player side, the returners are led by 2014 American Association Player of the Year Brent Clevlen. Joining Clevlen are Brent Dean, Dustin Geiger, Harrison Kain, T.J. Mittelsteadt, and Leo Vargas.
In Thursday's opener, the Wingnuts will send righty Jon Link to the hill to face fellow veteran right-hander Shairon Martis of the Lincoln Saltdogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The game will be broadcast on 1410 AM KGSO and online at wichitawingnuts.com.
