Lancaster JetHawks News Release

(SAN JOSE, CA) - Early on, it looked like the JetHawks were in for another pitchers duel in San Jose. A scoreless game going into the fifth, Argenis Diaz drew a walk to open the frame, after two Lancaster outs Jorge Jimenez drove him home with a double to left. Lars Anderson followed with a single, but the inning came to an end as Jimenez was thrown out at the plate. The Giants answered with a run of their own (un-earned) off JetHawks starter Chris Province. It was 1-1 going into the sixth.

Lancaster plated their second run in the sixth, a Josh Reddick double followed by a Daniel Nava single. The JetHawks broke things open in the seventh, scoring six runs on two hits. Suddenly a 2-1 ballgame was 8-1 with Lancaster in control.

Richie Lentz took over for Chris Province in the sixth, working two scoreless innings for Lancaster without allowing a hit and striking out three. Cody Mcallister finished out the night for Lancaster. The right-handed pitcher worked the final two innings giving up two un-earned runs to close things out 10-3.

The Lancaster JetHawks win, coupled with a Lake Elsinore Storm 5-4 loss to the Inland Empire 66ers, puts the JetHawks all alone in first place of the California League South Division. Four games remain in the chase for the first-half title. Lancaster plays one more game against the San Jose Giants before closing out the first half with three game against the Visalia Oaks in Visalia.

Chris Province (1-0) won his first in a JetHawks uniform, tossing five strong innings allowing only one un-earned run on one hit. Henry Sosa took the loss for the San Jose Giants despite giving up only one run on two hits while striking out five in his 4.2 on the mound.

Lars Anderson finished the game going 2-for-5 and has now hit in 14 straight for Lancaster.
