August 31, 2016 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads announce the transfer of former midfielder Mael Corboz to Capelli NY partner, MSV Duisburg.

The 21 -year-old joins the Zebras after playing with the Wilmington Hammerheads of the United Soccer League (USL) in 2016. The midfielder had already participated in MSV's summer training camp and was already in action for the Zebras at the summer cup "Schauinsland Reisen- Cup der Traditionen".

MSV CEO Peter Mohnhaupt elaborated, "First, we considered a possibility of an agreement in the next winter transfer period. Sending Mael back to the USA now, would not be conducive for his development, nor for the integration into the team. The fact that we were able to find a solution with Capelli NY and the Hammerheads, made us very happy. Without that fact, an agreement would have been impossible at the present moment."

Sports Director Ivo Grlic explained, "Mael is considered one of the biggest talents on the US market. He has evolved with us from the start very well and very quick. He will still need some time, but if his development continues at this rate, he will strengthen the team."

Head Coach Ilia Gruev also stated, "The boy has left an excellent impression on us as he has the right attitude, is technically skilled and also fits well as a person to us. We started with a well-staffed squad in the season, and continues to take this approach. Through the signing of Mael we got a very good young player for our midfield, who will increase the variation possibilities in our game."

Kay Mourheg, Vice President Capelli Europe explained, "Our goal is, with our Cedar Stars Academy and the Wilmington Hammerheads, to prepare young players for the European market and contribute with our partnership to the benefit of the MSV. With this arrangement it is a win-win situation for Mael and for MSV Duisburg, which we are glad to support."

After his signing Mael explained, "I am very happy that it has worked with the agreement. The boys, welcomed me very well in the team, in which I have already trained during my stay here. I joined a well-functioning team, which makes it, of course, easier for me to fit in. Now I am looking forward to playing, the fans and the MSV-Arena."

Despite losing the young talent, Wilmington proudly supports Corboz's future with MSV Duisburg. General Manager, Jason Arnold, stated, "We are very happy for Mael. He had a goal to play in Europe and we are glad that we could help him reach this goal. Mael is a pro on and off the field, and we will be hearing about his successes for many years to come. We thank Mael for all of his contributions to the Hammerheads and wish him all the best in Germany."
