Wilmington Faces LA for Third Time this Season
June 28, 2012 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads have worked all week to come back from a 4-0 defeat against the Dayton Dutch Lions in their last away match. The Los Angeles Blues travel to Wilmington on Saturday, June 30 to take on the Hammerheads for their third meeting of the season at 7:30 p.m. at Legion Stadium.
The Hammerheads and the Blues faced off twice earlier this season in back-to-back matches out in LA at the beginning of May. The Hammerheads completed the weekend with a 2-1 loss and a 2-2 tie, and have more than enough motivation to come out against LA this Saturday in full force with the league's 4th place seed position on the line.
Bryce Taylor scored the lone goal for the Hammerheads in the first 2-1 match, while Jack Avesyan scored both goals in the match resulting in the 2-2 tie. Although the Hammerheads led both games at times, they were not able to finish either game out on top. LA's second half intensity has proved much for the Hammerhead's to handle thus far.
The Hammerheads are currently two points above the Blues in 4th place in the USL PRO league standings. A win would better secure this position and bring the Hammerheads closer to the 3rd place Rochester Rhinos who they are just slightly trailing behind.
Upcoming Games
The Wilmington Hammerheads will take on the Richmond Riverhounds Saturday, July 7 at their home field. Kickoff is set for 7:30pm at Legion Stadium and will be the second time the Hammerheads have faced off against the Riverhounds at home. The theme for game night is "Christmas in July," sponsored by Independence Mall of Wilmington.
As a part of the Christmas in July celebration, Independence Mall's very own Santa will be making a guest appearance and available for pictures throughout the game. Come out and join other Hammerhead fans over food, drinks, soccer, and everyone's favorite holiday season.
