Wilmington Faces Doubleheader Weekend in Florida

Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads continue into their regular season this weekend as the travel to Florida for back-to-back matches. Wilmington is set to play Orlando City on Saturday, May 25 at the Florida Citrus Bowl and VSI Tampa Bay FC on Sunday, May 26 at Plant City Stadium. Each match will begin promptly with a 7:30 p.m. kick off.

The Hammerheads travel to Florida following their return home to Wilmington from their second round 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup victory over the Austin Aztex (PDL) in Austin, TX on Tuesday night. This weekend will conclude the Hammerheads' duration of three games in six days.

Wilmington will face Orlando City Saturday night for the first time this season since they last encountered in the semifinals of the 2012 USL PRO playoffs in late August, a match that earned Wilmington a spot in the Championship round after defeating Orlando 4-3 on their home field at the Citrus Bowl. Orlando is three matches ahead of the Hammerheads and currently holding an overall record of 7-1-2 above Wilmington's present record of 2-5-0.

Following Saturday night's matchup in Orlando, the Hammerheads will travel down the road to Tampa for their debut match against VSI Tampa Bay FC at Plant City Stadium on Sunday. Tampa holds a record of 4-3-0 this season and houses three former Hammerheads players: goalkeeper Alex Horwath, Andriy Budnyy, and Troy Cole.

Hammerheads fans will be able to catch all of the action live from Orlando and Tampa via UNATION at their Official Watch Party Headquarters, Buffalo Wild Wings on Old Eastwood Road in Wilmington, on both Saturday and Sunday.
