Wilmington Hammerheads FC News Release
Wilmington, NC - The Wilmington Hammerheads continued their undefeated streak at Legion Stadium on Saturday as they claimed a 2-1 victory in the 90th minute against the Harrisburg City Islanders.
Wilmington's Gareth Evans drove a free kick into the penalty area in the 26th minute for a header opportunity off of forward Richard Isberner that soared just inches above the crossbar. Minutes later, the Hammerheads took the lead following a Daniel Steres finish into the back of the net off a corner kick from midfielder Tom Parratt. Steres is currently the leading scorer for the Wilmington Hammerheads this season with five goals tallied after tonight's result.
Harrisburg found their first attempt of the night off the foot of forward Lucky Mkosana on a long shot outside the penalty box after crossing Hammerheads goalkeeper Troy Hernandez before rolling out of bounds.
The second half became more physical as both teams were eager to gain majority possession. After a consistent battle to find the back of the net, Harrisburg's Sainey Touray equalized the score with Wilmington in the 74th minute after challenging a deflection from Hernandez that derived from a previous shot off of Harrisburg's Morgan Langley.
The Hammerheads took their second goal of the match in the 90th minute as midfielder Bryce Taylor carried the ball from midfield to the corner for a cross that found forward Cody Arnoux for a header to secure the victory.
The Wilmington Hammerheads will travel to play the Charlotte Eagles on Saturday, July 13 at Queens University. Watch all the USL PRO action live-streamed via UNATION.
