Williams Sends Storm to Atlantic Division Finals
(Charlottetown, PE) It was a game that will go down in STORM History.
Down 6 points to the Saint John Mill Rats with 1:07 left in the 4th quarter, the Island STORM mounted a comeback with lockdown defense and clutch foul shooting to take a 1 point lead with 12 seconds left. Then Ricky Volcy of the Mill Rats scored with 5.4 seconds left to give Saint John a 1 point lead. That set the stage for veteran STORM power forward Mike Williams to send 1,435 STORM Fans into a wild celebration with a game winning, buzzer beating, 15 footer to push the Island team into the Atlantic Division Finals against the Halifax Rainmen.
Nick Okorie scored 27 points and handed out 7 assists to lead the STORM while Mike Williams and Rashad Whack each had 17. Whack also added 12 assists for a double-double while Mike Williams grabbed 9 rebounds.
Kenny Jones had a big night for the Mill Rats with 28 points and 11 rebounds while Anthony Anderson also scored 28 and handed out 6 assists.
Speculation has it the Atlantic Division Best of 7 Finals will open next Thursday night at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax with other games still to be scheduled.
