Williams Named Storm Assistant Coach

Enid, OK-Richard Williams, the winningest head coach in Mississippi State University men's basketball history, will join the Oklahoma Storm as head coach Roy Rogers assistant.

Williams spent twelve seasons as the head coach of the Bulldogs, compiling a 191-163 record. He coached the Bulldogs to three NCAA Tournament appearances, making the Final Four in 1996. He also led the Bulldogs to two NIT appearances. His 1991 team claimed Mississippi State's first Southeastern Conference basketball title since 1963. The Bulldogs also won the SEC Western Division title in 1995 and 1996, and won the school's first SEC Post-Season Tournament championship in 1996.

He was a two-time SEC Coach of the Year (1991 and 1995) before retiring after the 1998 season. "Coach Williams has always been a mentor to me and I am very excited about getting the opportunity to work with him." Rogers said. "He was at Mississippi State when I played in the SEC at Alabama and I have built a relationship with him over the years."

He has been a head coach in minor league basketball with the Memphis Hounddawgs of the American Basketball Association and the Jackson Rage and the Gulf Coast Bandits in the World Basketball Association.

Williams will be in Enid to conduct the Storm's free agent camp on April 14 and 15 at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid's Mabee Center. The Storm opens on the road in Jackson, Mississippi against the Jackson Wildcats on April 22 before coming home on April 24 to play the Albany Patroons.
