Oklahoma Storm To Host Draft Party
April 9, 2007 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Oklahoma Storm News Release
Enid, OK--The Oklahoma Storm of the United States Basketball League will be hosting a 2007 USBL Draft "watch party" Tuesday, April 10 at 5 p.m. at Pastimes Bar and Grill, 223 South Grand Avenue in Enid.
The USBL Draft gives league teams the opportunity to select current collegiate seniors who have just concluded their eligibility and other eligible players. USBL rules mandate that each team must carry a rookie on the roster after May 15. That rule allows seniors to conclude their school year before joining their team.
The USBL Draft will begin via conference call from the USBL office in Milford, Conn. at 6 p.m. central time.
The Storm, who posted the best record in the USBL last season on their way to the Midwest Division title, will pick from the 10th and final position in the first round of the four round draft. The Albany Patroons will select first, followed by the Gary Steelheads, Jackson Wildcats, Delaware Destroyers, Boston Freedom, Kansas Cagerz, Long Island Primetime, Brooklyn Kings, Dodge City Legend and the Storm.
"I plan on drafting some solid area players that could come in and help us." said Storm head coach Roy Rogers. "We have a number one pick in mind and we hope he is still available when we get to pick at the end of the first round."
The Storm will host a free agent camp this weekend before veterans camp starts on Sunday. The opener is April 22 at Jackson, Mississippi against the Wildcats. The home opener is April 24 when the Albany Patroons come to Mark Price Arena. For more information, call the Storm office at (580) 237-8676.
