Williams Going Back to School
April 25, 2024 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - Fin Williams' time with the Waterloo Black Hawks was shortened due to an injury, but that won't stop him from returning to college hockey this fall with the Minnesota State Mavericks.
The 6-foot, 1-inch forward signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday. Minnesota State will be the second stop during Williams' NCAA career; he played previously for Notre Dame. Earlier this week, the North Vancouver, British Columbia, native turned 21, putting him outside the age range eligible to play for the Black Hawks or in the United States Hockey League during the 2024/25 season.
"Extremely happy to see Fin make a decision for his NCAA program," said Black Hawks General Manager Bryn Chyzyk. "He made a large impact both on and off the ice during his short time in Waterloo. We wish him all the best in Mankato."
Williams played in 10 games for the Black Hawks between January 19 th and February 10 th . His lone goal for Waterloo was the game-winner in a 6-5 road victory against the Omaha Lancers; Waterloo rallied from a 5-2 second intermission deficit during that January 28 th matchup. Williams also recorded three assists as a Black Hawk; two of those setups were on game-winning goals.
The Hawks traded for Williams in a January deal with the Chicago Steel; he had appeared in four Steel games with one assist.
In the autumn of 2024, Williams was a sophomore at Notre Dame, although he did not appear in a Fighting Irish game last season. He had been in the lineup 22 times as a freshman, scoring his first collegiate goal on November 18, 2022 at Ohio State and completing the Irish schedule with one goal, one assist, and a +1 plus/minus differential.
Twenty-two players from Waterloo's final 2023/24 roster now have college commitments.
Williams' Waterloo teammate Reid Morich is also committed to Minnesota State. Forward Max Coatta is the most recent player to move from the Black Hawks to the Mavericks. Coatta wrapped up his college career in Mankato during the 2018/19 season.
Season tickets for the Black Hawks 2024/25 campaign are on sale now from tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com . The 2024/25 schedule will be released later this summer.
