Wilderness Stumbles as Jets Fly to Series Opening Victory

Five different players scored for the Janesville Jets Saturday night in a 5-1 triumph over the Minnesota Wilderness.

The Jets notched three goals over a 6:24 span in the opening period to build a 3-0 advantage. They then added two more in the 2nd period before Minnesota scored its lone goal with 45 seconds left in the middle frame. The game ended with a scoreless third period.

Joe Cesario posted the Wilderness' only goal, which came on the power play. The Westminster, CO, native redirected a Logan Nagle shot for his third goal of the season that was also assisted by Aidan Shirey.

The Wilderness used two goaltenders in the loss. Adam Prokop started the game and denied seven of 10 Jet shots through one period in net. Loris Uberti took over in the second period and played the final 40 minutes, stopping 27 of 29 attempts.

The Jets had goals from Trey Fechko, Christian Venticinque, Haden Kruse, Connor Brown and Jake Merens.

Michael Alberti stopped 19 of 20 Wilderness shots to earn the victory in net.

Janesville outshot Minnesota, 39-20.

The Wilderness had the upper hand in special teams, going one-for-four on the power play, and denying the Jets on its two man-advantage situations.

The win moves Janesville into second place in the Midwest Division and just two points behind the Wilderness in first place.

The two squads close out the weekend series Sunday with a matinee New Year's Eve contest. Puck drop at Northwoods Credit Union Arena is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
