CLOQUET, MN - The Minnesota Wilderness have promoted Jon Vaillancourt to the position of Head Coach for the upcoming 2019-2020 season. Current Head Coach Dave Boitz will remain in his General Manager role which he has held for the past 6 seasons.
Dave Boitz, who served as GM and Head Coach for the past season, commented "After much consideration and discussions with the team owners we decided it was best for the organization and our players to have a separate full time GM and a separate full time Head Coach. I have worked with Jon over the summer months and have been very impressed with his leadership and coaching abilities. He is clearly ready to take this next step. "
Chris Trapp, President & Owner of the Wilderness also commented " Joe Dusek and I are very supportive of Dave's decision to return to the GM role and give Jon the opportunity to lead our team."
Jon joined the Wilderness staff this year after 2 successful seasons as Head Coach of the Coulee Region Chill in the NA3HL. He played collegiate hockey for Framingham State University and played for the ECHL Elmira Jackals. He began his coaching career with the Hampton Road Whalers of the USPHL.
