QMJHL Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League

Wildcats will host Titan in 2006-07 season opener

June 2, 2006 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) News Release

BOUCHERVILLE, Friday, June 2, 2006 (QMJHL) - The Commissioner of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, Gilles Courteau, announced today the release of the regular season schedule for the upcoming 2006-07 campaign.

"This year, we enjoyed a marvellous season with record attendance figures, attracting more than two million fans. It is especially gratifying considering the return of the NHL as well as the loss of one of our marquee stars in Sidney Crosby. Our 2006-07 schedule follows relatively the same guidelines as the 2005-06 campaign. We wanted to favour week-end games and territorial match-ups to minimize travel as well as maximize the time necessary for our players to develop academically," said Mr. Courteau.

In total, 630 games will be played among the 18 organizations next year. The schedule will have each team playing 70 games, with an even split of 35 home and 35 away games. Also, teams will face each other at least twice.

The League will again have two divisions. In the Western division, the teams will be the following: Baie-Comeau, Chicoutimi, Drummondville, Gatineau, Quebec, Rimouski, Rouyn-Noranda, Shawinigan, Val-D'Or and Victoriaville. As for the Eastern division, it will host: Acadie-Bathurst, Cape Breton, Halifax, Lewiston, Moncton, PEI, Saint John (NB) and St. John's (NL).

Opening night is slated for Thursday, September 14, 2006, as the Acadie-Bathurst Titan visit the QMJHL champion Moncton Wildcats. As for the MasterCard Memorial Cup champion Remparts, they will host their first home game on September 22, 2006 and battle the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

Teams will benefit from a few recesses along the way: during the holidays from December 18 to 26, 2006 and then from December 31, 2006 to January 2, 2007. Moreover, no games are scheduled from November 20 to 23, 2006 due to the Canada Russia Challenge and no QMJHL games will be presented from January 15 to 18, 2007 due to the CHL Top Prospects Game.

Of note, 74.5% of the games will be played on week-ends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).
