Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - The Lewiston MAINEiacs got off to a strong start, but were unable to finish on top during Friday night's game. After allowing the contest's first goal, the Moncton Wildcats found the back of the net four straight times, picking up a 4-1 win in game one of the best-of-seven series in front of 1,653 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

The MAINEiacs got the scoring started at the 10:34 mark of the opening period. Jess Tanguy flipped a shot on goal from the right circle that deflected off of Brandon Thibeau's glove and in behind him for the first goal of postseason play.

19 seconds later, a scary moment occurred, when Etienne Brodeur hit Scott Trask in center ice. Trask went into the boards hard, was taken off on a stretcher, and Brodeur missed the remainder of the game with a major penalty and game misconduct. On the ensuing power play, the Wildcats evened the score, as Alex Saulnier fired home a slap shot from the top of the right circle.

With the score tied at one into the second period, Moncton picked up a second goal through a screen. Daniel Milan took the shot from the right point, finding daylight to light the lamp. In the third period, the Wildcats added to their lead. Brett Malone picked off the puck behind the net, found Ryan Penny open in the slot, and Penny did the rest, splitting Nicholas Champion's legs. Allain Saulnier added an empty net tally, as visiting Moncton finished off the 4-1 win.

Brandon Thibeau picked up the win for the Wildcats, making 24 saves on 25 shots. Nicholas Champion suffered the loss, stopping 22 of the 25 shots he faced.

The MAINEiacs and Wildcats will play game two of their best-of-seven series on Saturday night at 7:00 in Lewiston.
