Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Nick Farmer and Evan Okeley each scored two goals and Austin Beaulieu registered three assists to help the Wichita Falls Wildcats cruise to an 8-2 preseason victory over the Lone Star Brahmas at the Kay Yeager Coliseum on Wednesday night.

Colin Staub, Max Reisinger, Austin Albrecht and Tommy Apap all scored for Wichita Falls, while David Zevnik and Austin Shaw split time in net for the red-and-black.

The Wildcats wasted no time getting on the board, potting their first goal less than a minute into the contest.

Farmer picked up a loose puck in the neutral zone, and split the defense to find some open space. With only the Brahmas netminder to beat, the veteran forward faked a forehand effort, before squeezing it home on the backhand.

Wichita Falls doubled its advantage shortly after. This time it was Reisinger finding twine, as he whistled a wrist shot into the side netting to make it 2-0.

Lone Star pulled a goal back in the middle stages of the frame, but the Wildcats held firm to take the 2-1 lead into the first intermission.

In the second, Wichita Falls once again used an early-period goal to take control of the affair. With less than 15 seconds played in the stanza, Staub worked his way into the offensive zone through some heavy traffic and managed to sneak his forehand effort into the net.

The Wildcats increased their lead soon after, as Okeley got involved in the scoring. First-year forward Beaulieu began the play by collecting the disc in the offensive zone on the right-wing wall. With pressure on him, Beaulieu protected the puck long enough to play a blind, behind-the-back pass to a streaking Okeley, who roofed it to make it 4-1.

In the third, the Wildcats put the game beyond a doubt. First, Farmer picked up his second goal of the net. Next it was Austin Albrecht's turn to get involved in the offense, as he buried a shot from the low slot. Tommy Apap then got involved in the action, making it 7-1.

The Brahmas would tally a consolation goal to make it 7-2 late in the game, but Okeley's second goal of the night, coming on the power play, capped off a strong performance by Wichita Falls, as the game finished 8-2.

With preseason completed, the Wildcats will turn their attention to the 2014-15 regular season when they welcome the Odessa Jackalopes to the KYC on Saturday, Sept. 13.
