Washington, PA - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced Nathan Messner signed for the 2007 season. Messner was originally selected by the Florida Marlins in the 18th round of the 2004 June Draft from Muncy (PA) High School.
He made his pro debut in 2004 with the GCL Marlins where he was fourth in the rookie Gulf Coast League with a .310 batting average, along with seven doubles, two home runs, and 29 RBI in 44 games. He split the 2005 season between Jamestown (NY) of the New York-Penn League, Advanced Class A Jupiter of the Florida State League, and the GCL Marlins where he hit .300. Messner split last season between Jamestown and the GCL Marlins. He batted .238 with five doubles, one home run, and 22 RBI in 39 games with the Jammers. With the GCL Marlins he batted .366 in 11 games.
He holds a career .263 batting average, with 18 doubles, five home runs, 77 RBI in 139 games.
"Nathan is a player who comes in with three years of experience, and yet he will still have rookie status in the Frontier League," said Ross Vecchio Wild Things General Manager. "He was drafted as a third baseman and has also played first and DH; with his experience we will give him the opportunity to win a spot with us this spring."
The Wild Things will open their sixth season in the Frontier League in May of 2007. The team has advanced to post-season action an unprecedented five consecutive years. The team is currently accepting deposits for 2007 season ticket packages at the box office.
