Washington Wild Things News Release

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the re-signing of 2B Kyle Werman for the 2007 season.

Werman was selected by the Wild Things with the fourth pick of the 2006 Frontier League Draft. The 5'8" switch hitter completed his first season as a Wild Thing last year with a .254 batting average, scoring 16 runs on 33 hits and 14 RBI. Werman's season was cut short when he suffered separated shoulder, requiring season ending surgery.

Werman, a team captain at the University of Virginia, started 60 of 61 games, hit .272, and had eight doubles, four triples and 27 RBI in helping UVA reach the NCAA regional tournament in 2005. The Vienna, Virginia native also appeared in 11 games for the Kingsport Mets of the Appalachian League in 2005. Werman hit .271 with two doubles and 28 RBI in 2004 for the Cavaliers.

"I've played with middle infielders who will be in the hall of fame," said Wild Things' field manager John Massarelli. "I've managed and coached numerous big league infielders. If people want to see what major league hands are like and a double play turned at the major league level, they should watch Kyle Werman play second."

The Wild Things will play open their sixth season in the Frontier League in May of 2007. The team has advanced to post-season action an unprecedented five consecutive years. The team is currently accepting deposits for 2007 season ticket packages at the box office. The team will host an open house at the ballpark on April 21st when individual game tickets will go on sale. For information, call 724-250-9555.
