Washington Wild Things News Release
Washington PA -The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced that 2009 Wild Things' Manager, Mark Mason has accepted a position with the York Revolution of the Atlantic League as pitching coach for the 2010 baseball season.
Mason was the pitching coach for Washington from 2002-2004 and then again in 2006, when he was named Frontier League Coach of the Year. He served as Washington's field manager in 2009. He was the field manager for the Chillicothe Paints in 2007 and 2008, and he also managed the Ohio Valley Red Coats in 2005 when he was named the Frontier League's Manager of the Year.
"Mase has been with us for five of our eight years," said Ross Vecchio, Wild Things' general manager. "He has been an asset to our organization because of his baseball expertise and because of his local ties to our community. This move is a great one for his career, and we will miss him."
While Mason managed the Wild Things, they experienced their first losing season. The team completed the year with a 43-53 record. "No one could have done a better job than Mase in 2009," added Vecchio. "Various injuries riddled the team all season long, but he kept the team playing tough until the end."
Mason, a Canonsburg native, coached on the collegiate level for 17 years. In 2000 Mason coached third base for the Atlantic City Surf of the Atlantic League, and in 2002 he joined the Wild Things staff as a pitching coach of the inaugural Wild Things' team.
The Wild Things open their ninth season at CONSOL Energy Park Friday, May 21, 2010 when they will host the Oakland County Cruisers. Season Ticket Packages are available at the CONSOL Energy Park box office.
