Wild Things Announce Return of Three

Washington, Pa - The Washington Wild Things, presented by Washington Federal Savings Bank, announced the re-signing of RHP JJ Hollenbeck, RHP Brent Gabel, and C Kevin Butler Friday.

JJ Hollenbeck, a Virginia Military Institute graduate, completed the 2006 campaign with the Wild Things with a 3-0 record, allowing only 29 hits, 12 runs and a 2.70 ERA in 26.2 innings on the mound. He became the first pitcher in VMI history to rank in the top five in career ERA, strikeouts and innings pitched. In his 2006 senior season, Hollenbeck went 3-5 with a 4.71 ERA.

Brent Gabel has also re-signed with Washington for the 2007 season. The Conneautville, PA native went 2-2 in 2006 for Washington striking out 16 in 27 innings of work for the Wild Things. Gabel attended Division II Tusculum College where he posted a career 19-4 record with a 3.36 ERA and 144 strikeouts. He was the South Atlantic Conference pitcher of the year in 2005, posting a 10-1 record with a 3.12 ERA in 16 appearances. Gabel was named a 2006 preseason All-American as well as to the 2005 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association All-American team. He also was listed by Baseball America as a top ten Division II prospect for the 2006 MLB Draft.

Kevin Butler has also signed on with the Wild Things for the 2007 season. The Rock Hill, SC native signed with the Wild Things in August of 2006 as a catcher when Brandon Ketron's contract was sold to the Yankees. Last year during his senior season at Appalachian State University, he batted .313 with 18 doubles, eight home runs, and 34 RBI. During his junior season in 2005 he had a breakout season, ranking second on the team with a .338 batting average, 66 hits, 14 doubles, four home runs and 35 RBI.

The Wild Things will play open their sixth season in the Frontier League in May of 2007. The team has advanced to post-season action an unprecedented five consecutive years. The team is currently accepting deposits for 2007 season ticket packages at the box office.
