Wild Take Game No. 1

WENATCHEE, Wash. - Jeff Jubinville (Edmonton, AB) set up three goals, and the Wenatchee Wild won Game 1 of its divisional semifinal series Friday night against the Kenai River Brown Bears, 5-2.

Ryan Timar (Novi, Mich.) staked the Wild to a 1-0 lead at the 7:02 mark of the first period. Timar, positioned in front of the left post, tapped in Alex McLean's (Duluth, Minn.) pass from the goal line near the far corner. Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) earned the second assist. Eric Johnson (Madison, Wis.) put the Wild up by a pair with a little over three minutes remaining before the first intermission when he redirected a Chris Rumble (Chesapeake, Va.) wrist shot past Brown Bears netminder Mike Martin. Jubinville who set up the play with a slick drop pass to Rumble inside the near faceoff circle, earned the second assist.

Nathan Sliwinski (Castle Rock, Col.) put the Wild up, 3-0, 44 seconds into the second period when he one-timed a deft pass in the low slot from Jubinville on the power play. Dajon Mingo (Canton, Mich.) also assisted. Doug Beck scored the Brown Bears' first goal of the playoff series with a little less than nine minutes left in the second period to cut the Wild lead to 3-1.

Wenatchee took back its 3-goal lead 34 seconds into the third period when Jubinville set up Mingo in the slot. The Wild increased its lead to 5-1 at the 3:04 mark when Timar tapped in his second goal of the game. Timar started the play when he picked off a Brown Bears break-out pass in their own zone, slid the puck to his left to Pauly, who sent it back to Timar for the tap in. Matthew Cinader cut the Wild's lead to 5-2 at the 5:40 mark when he scored on a wrister, but the Brown Bears would get no closer. Jubinville had three assists while Timar scored two goals. Mingo had a goal and an assist while Pauly had two helpers.

Brandon Jaeger (Champlin, Minn.) made 16 saves on 18 shots, earning his first win of the 2010 playoffs. Martin stopped 26-of-31 shots before being relieved by Dainis Vasiljevs, who turned aside all five of the shots he saw. Wenatchee was 1-for-5 on the power play while Kenai River was 0-for-5.

Game 2 of the best-of-5 series is at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday. Game 3 is at 5:05 p.m. on Sunday. The entire series will be played at the Town Toyota Center.
