Wild Reassigns Five Players to Aeros

HOUSTON (SEPTEMBER 21, 2011) --- Minnesota Wild General Manager Chuck Fletcher today announced that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has reassigned five players to the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The Wild reassigned RW Joel Broda, RW Justin Fontaine, RW Mike Kramer, D Sam Lofquist and D Kyle Medvec to the Aeros.
Broda, 21 (11/24/89), split last season between Houston and Bakersfield Condors (ECHL). The 6-foot-1, 205-pound native of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan registered seven points (5-2=7) in 22 games with the Aeros. He added 30 points (17-13=30) in 32 games with Bakersfield, good for fifth on the team.
Fontaine, 23 (11/6/87), recorded 58 points (22-36=58) including 12 power-play goals and 42 penalty minutes (PIM) in 42 games last season, helping the University of Minnesota-Duluth win its first NCAA championship. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward ranked fourth in the nation in scoring and tied for second in power-play goals. The Bonnyville, Alberta, native also ranked third in scoring in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) last season.
Kramer, 24 (8/28/87), played the last four seasons at Princeton University. Last season, he finished second in team scoring with 31 points (13-18=31). The 5-foot-10, 210-pound native of St. Paul, Minn., totaled 85 points (35-50...) in 126 games during his time at Princeton.
Lofquist, 21 (3/15/90), played in 111 games for the Guelph Storm (OHL) over the last two seasons and registered 72 points (13-59=72) from the blue line. He appeared in one game for the Aeros after signing an Amateur Tryout Contract after Guelph's season concluded.
Medvec, 23 (6/16/88), recorded six points and 28 penalty minutes (PIM) in 29 games during his senior season at the University of Vermont in 2010-11. The 6-foot-6, 229-pound defenseman totaled 38 points (10-28=38) in 139 games in four seasons with the Catamounts.
The Aeros are slated to begin training camp at Sugar Land Ice and Sports Center on Monday, Sept. 26.
