Wild Re-Sign Defenseman Travis Roche

SAINT PAUL/MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Minnesota Wild Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Risebrough announced today that the National Hockey League (NHL) club has re-signed defenseman Travis Roche to a multi-year contract. Roche, 24 (6/17/78), completed his first full professional season in 2001-2002. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound defenseman appeared in four games for the Wild and played 60 games for the Houston Aeros of the American Hockey League (AHL) where he tallied 34 points (13-21=34) and registered a plus-2 for the season. Roche ranked fourth on the Aeros in power-play goals (6) and posted seven multi-point games. In addition, he was named AHL Man of the Year for community and charity work.
"Travis developed throughout the year in the minor leagues this past season and demonstrated in the American Hockey League playoffs a determination to take his game to the next level," Risebrough said. "Travis could have been an unrestricted free agent at the end of next year but we signed him to a multi-year deal to allow him to continue his development in Minnesota." The Grande Cache, Alberta-native was originally signed by the Wild on April 8, 2001 and made his NHL debut with the Wild on the same day. He played two seasons for the University of North Dakota from 1999-2001 and was a member of the 2000 NCAA Championship squad. As per club policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
