Portland Pirates News Release

PORTLAND, ME - The Portland Pirates announced today that they had raised $9,579 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through their annual "Shirts Off Their Backs" campaign sponsored by the C.N. Brown Company. The final tally comes following the on-line auction of three-game worn jerseys on the Pirates' web site, portlandpirates.com.

"'Shirts Off Their Backs' continues to be one of our most popular promotions," said Brian Petrovek, Pirates' President/CEO. "Because of that popularity and the support of the C.N. Brown Company, we've been able to raise such a significant amount of money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association during the last two years." During the last month and a half of the 2001-02 season, fans bought chances to win the jerseys worn by the Pirates in the final home game of the regular season. As names for each jersey were drawn, fans would walk onto the ice of the Cumberland County Civic Center where the player would remove the jersey, present it to the winner and autograph it for them. Three other jerseys were put up for bid in the on-line auction. Fans submitted bids electronically with the winners determined earlier this month.

The money raised through "Shirts Off Their Backs" will be presented to MDA during the annual MDA Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon, carried live on WGME-TV, Channel 13. During the last two years, the Pirates have raised more than $19,000 for MDA.
