
Wild Lose In A Battle: Frisco 50, AK Wild 41

The Alaska Wild (1-1) took it to the Frisco Thunder (3-0), but in the end lost the game yesterday (Sunday, March 16) in Intense Football League action. The Wild trailed Frisco, 24-14 by halftime. After some halftime adjustments, the Wild surged back and closed the gap to 43-41 on Nian Taylor's 17-yard touchdown reception from Nick Mystrom with 14:14 remaining in fourth quarter. The rally wasn't enough as Frisco answered back with a Wes Cooper TD pass to Jason Deml. The Frisco defense withstood the Wild offense late in the fourth quarter and held on for the win.
Game highlights versus the Thunder included Wild QB Nick Mystrom 18 passing completions on 34 passing attempts, 229 passing yards and 5 touchdowns. WR #8 Andre Velazquez led all Wild receivers with 6 catches for 92 yards and a touchdown. Wild WR #7 Nian Taylor had 5 catches, 56 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Wild WR #14 Keith Smith also had 5 catches, 67 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Frisco QB Wes Cooper had 5 touchdown passes with WR Richard Morris catching four of Cooper's touchdown passes and K Dennis Hopovac kicked a team-record three field goals in the game. KR Kevin Lenford set a team record with 123 kickoff return yards on five attempts.
"We really beat ourselves," said AK Wild Head Coach Hans Deemer. "It's bad that we lost, but I love the fact that we hung in there to the very end. Now we have to fix some of the problems that caused us to lose the game and then make our adjustments for next weekend."
The AK Wild play their second game of the two week road trip this Saturday March 22nd at 3:05pm AST versus the Corpus Christi Hammerheads.
