Wild Look to Rebound on Saturday

The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will open the home portion of the 2011 season on Saturday at Hartman Arena in a game vs. the Green Bay Blizzard. The game kicks off at 7:05 PM with doors opening to the Arena at 6:00 PM. Both teams are considered championship contenders, but both lost opening week games.

The Blizzard opened the 2011 campaign on the road last Friday night in Bloomington, IL and fell to the Bloomington Extreme by a score of 42-26. The Blizzard managed to keep it close for much of the contest but were hurt by seven turnovers, five of which were fumbles.

Quarterback Willie Copeland led the Blizzard offense completing 24 of 46 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. The Green Bay offense also saw a solid game effort from wide receivers Agim Shabaj and Lonnie Sanders. Shabaj caught seven passes for 85 yards and scored one touchdown while Sanders caught six passes for 42 yards and scored two touchdowns.

In the Wild season opener, Wichita traveled to Grand Island, NE and fell to the Nebraska Danger by a score of 70-59. During the 4th quarter, Wild quarterback Alex Rouse left the game with a knee injury. Rouse finished 8 of 24 passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns before turning the reigns over to back up quarterback Shane Mascarenas. Mascarenas went 5 of 8 passing for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Mascarenas will get the start at QB for the Wild on Saturday. Wild running back, Darius Fudge caught 5 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown. Fudge also tallied 54 yards rushing in the contest.
