Wild Edged in Game 2: Split Series with Monsters

WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Fresno Monsters edged theWenatchee Wild Saturday at the Town Toyota Center, 3-2. The win forced a splitin this weekend's 2-game series and halted the Wild's winning streak at fourgames.

The Wild drew first blood when Trevor Husch's (Plainfield, Ill.) shotleaked through the wickets of Fresno netminder Tomas Sholl near the midpoint ofthe first period. Kyle Vogel (Richland,Wash.) and Dylan Abood (Centennial,Colo.) assisted on Husch's second marker of the weekend's 2-game series.

The Monsters controlled thesecond period. Brendan Bradley knotted the score, 1-1, a little more than oneminute into the second stanza on a power-play marker. Riley Borer assisted. TheMonsters went up, 2-1, with 7:13 remaining in the second frame when NathanRopelewski scored from a sharp angle off of a rebound. Karl Andersen andMikhail Bushinski earned the assists.

The Wild appeared to tie up thecontest early in the third period, but ParkerJohnson's (Bloomington, Ill.) lamp-lighter was waived off due to goaltenderinterference. The Monsters went on to extend their lead to 3-1 with 9:09remaining when Bushinski scored on a slap shot after he entered the Wild zonedown the left wing. David Dalbec assisted.

Shawn Pauly (Bellingham, Wash.) cut Fresno's lead down to 3-2 with3:28 left in regulation when he jammed in a rebound from right in front of thecage off of Blake Roubos' (NiagaraFalls, Ontario) shot. Brendan Vetter(North Fond du Lac, Wis.) picked up the second assist. However, Wenatchee couldnot come up with the equalizer down the stretch.

Bushinski (1G, 1A) led theMonsters with two points. Sholl turned away 39 of the Wild's 41 shots. Robert Nichols (Dallas, Texas) allowedthree goals on 21 shots. He suffered just his third regulation loss of theseason. Fresno scored the only power-play goal of the night on its loneopportunity.

The Wild (21-11-4) will host theKenai River Brown Bears in a 2-game series next weekend (Jan. 27-28). Bothgames will begin at 7:05 p.m.
