Wenatchee Wild News Release
WENATCHEE, Wash. - The Wenatchee Wild selected defenseman David Mead Thursday with the 17th pick in the first round of the 2012 NAHL Entry Draft.
The selection of Mead brought the Wild roster to its maximum of 30 players. All NAHL rosters must be reduced to 25 players by Sept. 1.
Born Aug. 24, 1992, Mead is a native of Conklin, N.Y. The 6-foot-1-inch, 217-pound blueliner is a hard hitter.
"He's a big kid," Wild head coach Bliss Littler said of Mead. "He has a mean streak, he can defend and he's definitely an intimidating presence."
Mead recorded three points (1G, 2A) and racked up 91 penalty minutes in 53 games over the last two seasons with the USHL's Omaha Lancers and Fargo Force.
"He plays regular minutes," Littler said. "He's more of a defensive defenseman and he'll play against the other team's top players."
The 2012 NAHL Entry Draft was conducted online Thursday. A total of 172 players were selected.
