Wichita's Platzer named CCM ECHL Player of the Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Wichita Thunder forward Kyle Platzer has been named the CCM ECHL Player of the Month for October.

Platzer scored five goals, added six assists and was a +8 in October as Wichita went 6-0-0 in the opening month of the ECHL season.

The 22-year-old had at least one point in each of his six games during the month, including a three-point effort (2g-1a) in a 5-2 win against Rapid City on Oct. 22 and three two-point games - Oct. 13 vs. Indy, Oct. 21 vs. Rapid City and Oct. 28 at Kansas City.

A native of Waterloo, Ontario, Platzer was a co-winner of the ECHL Plus Performer of the Month for October while he is tied for fourth in the league with five goals and 11 points.

Under a National Hockey League contract with the Edmonton Oilers, Platzer has tallied 28 points (9g-19a) in 103 career American Hockey League games with Bakersfield and Oklahoma City.

Prior to turning pro, Platzer had 140 points (61g-79a) in 203 career games in the Ontario Hockey League with London and Owen Sound.

Runners Up: Adam Chapie, Greenville (6 gp, 4g, 5a, 9 pts.) and Conner Bleackley, Tulsa (8 gp, 5g, 4a, 9 pts).

Also Nominated: Jason Binkley (Fort Wayne), Cam Reid (Indy), Sam Warning (Quad City), Steven Whitney (South Carolina), Christian Hilbrich (Toledo), Michael Pelech (Utah) and Reid Gardiner (Wheeling).
