PRINCETON, N.J. - Wheeling Nailers' forward Reid Gardiner is the CCM ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.

The 21-year-old scored five goals, including two game-winning tallies, and added three assists for eight points in six games during the month, helping the Nailers to a 4-1-1 record in the opening month of the ECHL season.

A native of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Gardiner tallied at least one point in each of Wheeling's six games, and scored a goal in five of the six outings. He picked up game-winning goals in a season-opening 5-4 win at Greenville on Oct. 13 and in a 6-5 victory at Brampton on Oct. 27.

Under contract with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League, Gardiner made his pro debut with the Penguins last season registering six points (3g-3a) in 23 games.

Prior to turning pro, Gardiner posted 257 points (124g-133a) in 290 career games in the Western Hockey League with Prince Albert and Kelowna.

Runners Up: Devin Williams, Tulsa (4-0-0, 1.83 GAA, .949 save pct.) and Shane Starrett, Wichita (3-0-0, 1.95 GAA, .942 save pct.).

Also Nominated: Dawson Leedahl (Greenville), Collin Delia (Indy), Ivan Kulbakov (Quad City), Parker Reno (Toledo) and Cliff Watson (Utah).
