ALLEN, TX - The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) will travel to Texas to take on the Allen Wranglers in the Intense Conference first round playoff matchup of 2012 IFL postseason play. The game will take place on Monday, June 25th at the Allen Event Center; kickoff scheduled at 7:05pm (CST).
Monday night's game will not only decide who moves onto the semifinal round of postseason play, it will also serve as a rubber match between the two teams. Wichita and Allen faced each other a total of four times in 2012 regular season play; each team walking away with two wins and two losses. Monday night's playoff matchup will ultimately decide who the better team is and who moves onto the next round of playoffs.
The first two Wild-Wranglers matchups of the regular season saw Allen get the better of Wichita. Allen won the first game, played in Allen on February 25th, in a final score of 50-30. The Wrangler again trumped the Wild one month later, playing in Wichita on March 24th; final score 61-48. However the latter half of the season saw Wichita walkaway with two wins. Playing at home on April 28th, Wichita beat Allen in a thrilling game that came down to the last play; final score 55-54. Then on May 26th the Wild headed to Allen in a game that saw Wichita beat Allen convincingly; final score 59-41. In regular season play, each team walked away with one win on the road and a win at home.
Wichita, one of the hottest teams in the IFL over the second half of the season, dropped their final game of the regular season last Saturday nights, losing to the Green Bay Blizzard in a final score of 72-41. The loss slated the Wild into the #3 seed in the Intense Conference, finishing off their regular season with a record of 8-6; wining 8 or their last 10 regular season games.
With the help of the Wichita loss to Green Bay, Allen claimed their playoff fate with an 85-70 win over the New Mexico Stars last Saturday night, successfully clinching the #2 seed in the Intense Conference and insuring a first-round home playoff game. The Wranglers concluded their 2012 regular season play with a record of 9-5.
