Quad City Mallards News Release

WICHITA, KS - R.G. Flath and Ryan Flanagan provided a goal and an assist apiece as the host Wichita Thunder held off a Quad City Mallard comeback bid to defeat the Mallards 4-3 Friday night.

The Mallards, who at one point trailed 3-0, got a pair of goals from Mike Stinziani as they twice battled back to within one in the third period. Stinziani cut what had been a 3-1 gap to 3-2 from close range at 9:43 of the third. The Thunder responded when Flath widened the gap to 4-2 by scoring what proved to be the game winner from the right wing circle just 56 seconds later. Stinziani would make it a one goal game again by scoring once more from close range at 14:19, but the Mallards were unable to produce a late equalizer.

The Thunder had begun to build its advantage by scoring the only goal of the first period. Wichita was on the power play when Ian Lowe tipped the puck home at 17:53 of the first.

The Thunder stretched the cushion to three goals by scoring twice in the second period. Flanigan buried a rebound to make it 2-0 at 10:02 of the second. At 14:34 Les Reaney broke into the Mallard goalmouth to steer the third Wichita goal just in over the goal line. The three-goal margin lasted just under two minutes before Mickey Lang sparked what would prove to be unfulfilled Quad City comeback hopes with a shorthanded breakaway goal that cut Wichita's edge to 3-1 at 16:32 of the middle frame.

The Mallards return to action at home tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. against the Tulsa Oilers. Fans can purchase four lower bowl seats for that game for just $40- a savings of better than $30 off the regular walk-up ticket price. In addition, hot dogs will be available for just $1 on Saturday evening.
