Wichita B-52s Announce Developmental Team

January 9, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Wichita B-52s News Release

The Wichita B-52s are pleased to announce the formation of an amateur indoor soccer team that will compete in the PASL-Premier -the official developmental league of the PASL. The objective of the new team is to enhance the development of local talent, and to produce home- grown soccer players that are capable of competing at the professional level. This will also create an opportunity for amateur athletes to have a direct relationship with a professional team, while acclimating to the culture and traditions of the entire program.

The Premier Arena Soccer League (or PASL-Premier) was founded in 1997, and is the largest international indoor/arena league in the world. The league currently has 6 divisions consisting of 46 teams across the USA and Mexico. For the current season, the team is called the B-52s Premier, and competes in the South Central Division along with seven other teams, all from the Texas area.

The Premier team will have four home games for the 2013/14 Winter season and will play at Hartman Arena after the Pro games. B-52 fans are welcome to stick around after the Pro games to watch and support the Premier team. These games will not have all of the offerings as the Pro games (no announcing, music, merchandise, streaming, commentary, etc.). Concessions will be available for the first part of the game. The games will be shorter, as well, with a continuously running clock (Four 15 min. quarters with short intermissions). Schedule and opponents are listed below.

The B-52s Premier are coached by Wichita native Darin Smith. With over 25 years of playing experience, Darin is a product of Wichita youth soccer, as he played competitively with SCSA for his entire youth career. He also played for the Wichita Gunners in 06/07, which was a previous Wichita PASL-Premier team (Coached by Larry Inlow and Brian Cushing), and played with the 11/12 Wichita Wings reserve team. Darin's coaching experience comes from over 10 years of coaching local youth soccer ranging from 8-19 years of age. His very first coaching job was at Independent Middle School, where he was assistant coach to the great Roy Turner. Darin brought over 30 championships, tournament and league play combined, to a local youth girls team (that at one time carried the top ranking in the state) in his 7 years as their coach.

"Having a premier team will create great opportunities for the youth and young adult soccer players in our community. For the young ones, it will give them something local to aspire to, and for the older ones, something to work hard for. The more developing players we have involved in the B-52s' program, the more Wichita soccer is put on the map. I am honored to be a part of the Wichita B-52s' organization, and am looking forward to contributing to this growing program and providing knowledge and experience for local talent." Darin Smith

"I am excited to build another bridge that reinforces the connection between the B-52s and the Wichita community. Darin's experience, motivation, and passion about Wichita soccer makes him the right man for the job. We both share the same vision of the direction of this amateur team. We want to continue assembling this team with the most local talent possible, and this is the next phase in making this happen." Joey Pindell

Right now, the Premier team has been hand-selected by Darin, but there will be tryouts to allow all interested players a chance to join the program. Tryouts and player information will be announced soon!
