Wichita B-52s Inaugural Season Review

February 21, 2014 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Wichita B-52s News Release

The first chapter of the Wichita B-52s history book has been written. Our inaugural year and the 2013/14 PASL season saw many highs and lows, but most importantly, we saw progress. Our record and growing attendance reflects this. The evolution of this team over the last 4 months is unbelievable. From where we were in November, to where we are now is a great indication of the potential of the B-52s. We ended the season with an 8 and 9 overall record and made it to the US Open Cup quarterfinal. Although not bad for a first year, there is plenty of room for improvement. We took our beatings, and delivered some. We played some very intense matches, including taking the top two teams in our division into overtime on our home turf.

Outside of performances on the field, we have introduced ourselves into the community and taken a proactive approach in giving back to Wichita through many volunteer activities and youth programs. From the DSSW Buddy Walk in the pre-season, to helping with the Salvation Army around the holidays, we have enjoyed spending time in the community and offering more than weekend soccer. Very positive feedback regarding our fundraising opportunities and youth involvement has come from coaches and teams. Our multiple visits to local schools have been very rewarding and seeing the excitement on the students' faces when we walk into their classrooms is a tremendous joy. Knowing that we are making an impact is very fulfilling, as the reading program we developed with Griffith Elementary helped increase 3 out of 4 students' reading scores. Holidays with the B-52s was a fun evening that allowed the team to spend some time with fans and was a great opportunity for fans to get to know our players more. The halftime ceremony at our last game was a great way to recognize the achievements of legendary Wings player Kim Roentved, as well as honor the history of indoor soccer in Wichita.

The accomplishments that have been made are enough to call this season a success, but by no means are we satisfied. As previously mentioned, there is plenty of room for improvement and we will continue to provide a top professional team that Wichita can be proud of and support. We want to sincerely thank all of our fans for the incredible support that we have received throughout this season. It speaks volumes about the amount of passion and belief that Wichita has for the B-52s and soccer in this great city. It is humbling, to say the least. You have shown that there is a place in Wichita for professional soccer. Whether you're banging on drums, or quietly enjoying the game, we value every different type of fan and look forward to seeing you all next season. This is Wichita's team. Without our spirited fans and loyal supporters, we are just a soccer team. It is a privilege to be able to play this game in front of the best home crowd in the league. Thank you, Wichita. We love you, and our gratitude is immeasurable.

The B-52s would also like to thank everyone who has helped make this first season possible -the Hartman Arena staff for providing their beautiful facility and game day support, Martin Security for maintaining order at our events, Dan Lucero and KGSO for their incredible coverage of our games, MJ Productions for capturing all of our footage, Tony Schock and GS Memorymaker Photography for enhancing the game day experience and capturing such amazing moments throughout the season, Sports Zone for providing your facility to allow us to train and improve, US Logo and the ProSoccer Store for providing our great merchandise, our athletic trainers at Mid-America Orthopedics for keeping our guys healthy, Dr. Kison Frank and Massage Matters for preparing the guys before the games, Hotel at Old Town for providing your amazing hotel for our opponents and our special events, Builders Inc. for providing shelter for players, SCSA and AYSO for helping us connect with area youth soccer teams, Tornado Valley Young Marines for providing our nation's colors, the Monarch for being a hospitable host for our watch/after parties, and all of our game day help including Jared Cerullo, Chris Hall, Eddie Ulloa, Jeremy Wespi, Carlos Fernandez, all of our National Anthem singers, all youth teams, and our enthusiastic interns! A lot of work goes into this team, and we could not do it without your help. Thank you!

Stay tuned-in during the offseason! We will be involved in many different activities in the community. Information on youth camps, tryouts, and season tickets will be available soon!
