
WHL unveils new mobile website for Smartphones

CALGARY, AB. - The Western Hockey League has launched a mobile-optimized version of its website, designed for Apple iPhone and iTouch, BlackBerry(r), HTC Touch(tm), and a wide range of other web-enabled smartphones. The portable version of WHL.ca, WHL Mobile is specifically designed to deliver LIVE WHL news, scores, and statistics to WHL followers' through their smartphone devices. WHL Mobile features news and information from WHL.ca and will also provide full game summaries, full rosters, player profiles, news articles and much more.
If you have a handheld smartphone device and enter www.whl.ca in the web browser, it will automatically forward you to the new WHL mobile site. These devices include Blackberry's with an operating system 4.6 or higher, an iPhone or iTouch or any Android phone. (CLICK HERE for list of compatible Android phones)
For WHL followers that do not have a compatible smartphone to open the new WHL Mobile site, the Western Hockey League will continue to offer its original WAP mobile site (wap.whl.ca) made for all other cell phones with internet browsers.
The WHL will continue to expand and enhance all content on WHL Mobile with future plans to provide audio and video features, downloaded applications, and interactive portions on the new site.
"We are extremely excited to provide followers of the WHL a new vehicle to receive LIVE news, scores and statistics in the palm of their hand," commented WHL Director Communications Cory Flett, "With the launch of WHL Mobile, WHL news and information will now also reach over 25 million iPhone and iTouch users worldwide, who were previously unable to access the WHL's WAP mobile site."
The WHL partnered with current web provider NewSport Media to design WHL Mobile. NewSport Media is a leading provider of integrated web-based sports management solutions including LeagueStat.com the real time scoring and stats web application that powers WHL.ca.
