WHL Announces Weekly Award Winners

Calgary, AB - The Western Hockey League announced today that Spokane Chiefs forward Kailer Yamamoto has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending October 30, 2016.

Yamamoto registered seven points (3G-4A) in four games to help the Spokane Chiefs go 3-0-1-0 during a road trip through the East Division this past week.

On Tuesday, October 25 against the Moose Jaw Warriors, Yamamoto put forth a goal and two assists to earn third-star honours in a 6-2 win. The 18-year-old product of Spokane was then named first star after chipping in with two goals in a 6-2 win over the Saskatoon Blades on Wednesday, October 26. In a 4-2 win on Friday, October 28 against the Prince Albert Raiders, Yamamoto provided one assist, earning second-star recognition. Finally, Yamamoto wrapped up the week with another assist and third-star honours in a 3-2 overtime loss against the Swift Current Broncos on Saturday, October 29.

Yamamoto is currently tied for second in the Western Hockey League scoring race with 23 points (10G-13A) through 15 games this season.

The 5-foot-9, 160-pound right winger is eligible for the 2017 NHL Entry Draft and was given an 'A' rating on the NHL Central Scouting preliminary 'Players to Watch' list. Yamamoto is in his third WHL season with the Chiefs, having collected 151 points (52G-99A) in 140 career WHL regular season contests.
