Indiana Blast News Release
INDIANAPOLIS- The Vancouver Whitecaps (10-6-4, 34 pts) beat the Indiana Blast (3-17-1 10 pts) 4-2 Saturday night at Kuntz Stadium. Jason Jordan scored two goals and had an assist for the Whitecaps and Jeff Dresser had two goals off the bench for the Blast.
The Blast's best scoring opportunity in the first half was in the 20th minute. Moussa Dagnogo sent a pass from the end line to Godfrey Tenoff, but his spectacular scissors-kick was just wide.
After playing solid in the defensive third for the first 42 minutes, the Blast gave up their first goal. Jeff Samples was given a yellow card for a handball inside the penalty area and Carlo Corazzin converted the penalty kick.
The Whitecaps kept up the pressure forcing a giveaway in the 49th minute that led to the first of two John Sulentic to Justin Jordan goals for the Whitecaps. Jordan scored again in the 64th minute. Sulentic stole the ball at midfield and put on the afterburners to leave everyone behind except for Jordan. Sulentic passed the ball to Jordan 35 yards out and Jordan did the rest.
Jeff Samples was sent off in the 55th minute for two yellow cards, and it looked like the Whitecaps were going to run up the score, but late substitutions Jeff Dresser and Gerardo Quiroz had other ideas. Quiroz stole a pass from the goalie to create a two-on-one with Jeff Dresser. Quiroz found Dresser as keeper Alex Marques took himself out of the play and Jeff hit the empty-netter. Dresser's second goal came off a Mali Walton chip pass. Dresser sent a rocket past the keeper, who had no chance.
The Blast's next home game will be Friday, August 8th against the Minnesota Thunder at 7:00 pm at Kuntz Stadium. It's also Union Planters Thunderstix night and Blast Camp Reunion Night. Gates open at 6:00pm.
