West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
Fireworks, Family Days and visits from fan favorites such as Myron Noodleman and the ZOOperstars! highlight the West Michigan Whitecaps 2005 schedule which was unveiled today by the organization. While fans watch the team pursue back-to-back Midwest League Championships on the field, they'll be treated to more entertainment than ever before in-between innings, before and after the game and in the sky above Fifth Third Ballpark.
The defending Midwest League Champions open their season on the road against Battle Creek on April 7. The two teams come to Fifth Third Ballpark for the home opener on Saturday, April 9. The game, which starts at 6:35 p.m., will be followed by fireworks.
The Whitecaps schedule includes three School Days games - Tuesday, May 17 vs. Fort Wayne, Wednesday, May 25 vs. Dayton and Thursday, June 2 vs. Kane County. The special 11:00 a.m. start time allows for field trips as the school year nears an end. Standard gametimes for 2005 are 6:35 p.m. Mon.- Fri. (April/May); 2 p.m. Sat.- Sun. (April/May); 7 p.m. Mon.- Sat. (June-Sept.); and 2 p.m. Sunday (June-Sept.)
School Days are not the only fan favorite making a return in 2005. The always-popular Myron Noodleman will make two stops in West Michigan next season - July 15 and August 19, while the ZOOperstars! will entertain the crowds on June 24 and August 12. Other performers include BirdZerk! (June 3), Sesame Street characters (June 26), Reggy (July 29) and the Blue Brothers (August 9).
"I'm really excited about the 2005 schedule," said Marketing Manager Mickey Graham. "We've got a great mix of old and new entertainment like the ZOOperstars! and Reggy, plus, we're bringing back some favorites like Halloween Night from last season. I really think fans are going to have a great time at each and every game in 2005."
Along with Halloween Night on July 26, the Whitecaps also have several other special theme nights planned including a Salute to the 1968 Tigers on June 7. Popular promotions such as Field of Dreams and Shirts Off Our Backs will highlight a schedule already filled with 15 fireworks nights and 12 family days. Fireworks will light up the sky above Fifth Third Ballpark following every Saturday home game in June, July and August, plus there are five mid-week fireworks shows and a special May 14 fireworks show.
Fans will see a rematch of the 2004 Midwest League Championship series May 31 - June 3 when Kane County comes to Fifth Third Ballpark. The 'Caps defeated the Cougars three games to two to claim the League title. The action on the field should also heat up June 13 - 15 and June 23 - 26 when the Whitecaps play inter-state rival Lansing at Fifth Third Ballpark. The Whitecaps are scheduled to play 70 home games and 70 road games in 2005.
