White Sox game note
August 17, 2006 - Pioneer League (PL)
Great Falls Voyagers News Release
THE SLIDE CONTINUES: The White Sox dropped their eighth consecutive game 9-3 last night to Ogden in the opener of a four game series at Centene Stadium. The Sox never led in the game and were no-hit through the first five innings. Lee Cruz busted up Raptors starter Bryan Morris' no-hit bid by leading off the sixth inning with a single. That hit would prove to ignite a three run rally by Great Falls, as the Sox scored three runs in the frame on RBI singles by Mike Grace and John Shelby and a Morris wild pitch. The outburst pulled the Sox to within 5-3 at the end of the sixth inning. But a four run ninth by Ogden put the game out of reach. RHP Clevelan Santilez suffered his fourth loss against just one win this season as the White Sox fell to 4-14 in the Pioneer League's second half. GF trails Billings by eight games in the Northern Division standings.
TONIGHT NOT FOR DAY, SO IT'S WING: RHP Tim Day has been scratched from his scheduled start tonight due to mild soreness in his pitching arm. LHP Ryan Wing, who's continuing his rehab assignment in Great Falls recovering from Tommy John surgery on his left elbow, will get the start. Wing's expected to make his third appearance of the season, bringing a 0-0 record and 8.10 ERA into the game. Wing was outstanding in his initial showing August 8 at Billings working two innings in which he allowed no runs on two hits, striking out three. His last outing was not as impressive as he yielded three earned runs on four hits in 1.1 innings. Wing is 24, in his fifth season of professional baseball having been waived by the Texas Rangers in June of 2005 before being claimed by the Chicago White Sox. Wing was a second round pick of the ChiSox in 2001 out of Riverside Community College in California.
HOW THE SOX STACK UP: Great Falls continues to lead the Pioneer League in homers (47), while sitting third in team batting average (.265), third in hits (502) and seventh in runs scored (276). Defensively, the Sox are last in fielding percentage (.946), first in errors (122) and first in double plays turned (68).
