
White Re-Signs, Rau And Ellis Sign

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox continue their flurry of offseason moves with the re-signing of 2011 shortstop Jason White along with new additions Garrett Rau and Shaun Ellis.
The 6-1, 175 lbs left-handed Jason White resides in Fort Collins, Colorado. White spent four years with the University of Iowa where he finished his senior season with as a Big Ten All-Star selection with a .333 avg, 10 homeruns and 38 RBI. White was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 17th round of the 2007 draft. He advanced up to double-AA Bowie of the Eastern League in 2009 and recently spent time with Frederick of the single-A Carolina League. In 2011 with the Sox, White hit a career-best .296 with five homeruns and 49 RBI.
Camillo, California native Garrett Rau will also join the Sox roster. The 23 year-old right-hander was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 12th round of the 2010 draft out of California Baptist University. The 6-0, 195 lbs Rau spent two years in Boston's single-A system with Lowell in 2010 and Greenville in 2011 before being released. Through Rau spent much of his career as a pitcher, he is expected to join the Sox outfield.
Shaun Ellis will be joining the pitching staff in 2012. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native attended Southern University and was drafted in the 32nd round of the 2008 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. Though he never played in the Phillies organization, the 6-3, 225 lbs right-hander joined Gateway in the independent Frontier League in 2009. Ellis continued in independent leagues, splitting time with El Paso in the American Association and New Jersey of the Can-Am Association in 2010 and 2011. Ellis was signed following a trade between New Jersey and the Sox on February 21.
