Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings, RBC Financial Group and the Canadian Hockey Association have announced plans for the fifth annual Toonie Toss. This year's Toonie Toss will be held during the second intermission of Friday night's game between Brandon and the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors at the Keystone Centre. Fans attending the game will have a chance to participate and win some great prizes from RBC Financial Group. All proceeds collected during the Toss, which will be held during the second intermission will be donated to the Brandon Youth Hockey Association.

"There are thousands of unsung heroes in our game - from the volunteers that help run tournaments to those coaches and parents that are busy day and night scheduling games, running practices or simply driving their kids to arenas all over the country," says Wheat Kings' director of marketing Rick Dillabough. "These people help make hockey one of the best sports in the world. However, these organizations need money for ice-time, tournaments, uniforms and lots more. Hopefully this event will assist Brandon Youth Hockey in some small way."

Royal Bank Financial Group is a premier sponsor of the Canadian Hockey Association. Friday's game will also feature the annual Minor Hockey Referee Appreciation Night. Thanks to the generous support of RBC Financial Group, forty local officials will attend the game.

The Wheat Kings will close out the weekend doubleheader on Saturday night when the Calgary Hitmen pay their second and final visit of the season. Saturday's game will feature Mascot Mania, starring Buz 'n Boomer from the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers. The players will then close out a busy weekend Sunday afternoon with the 2nd Annual Skills Day. Admission is just $2 with all proceeds going to the Goals for Kids campaign. A complete list of events, teams and competitors will be listed this weekend on the hockey club's official web site.
