Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, MB. - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up what turned out to be an extremely busy Trade Deadline Day Thursday by announcing two additional roster moves.
The Wheat Kings, who will travel to Moose Jaw on Friday night to face the Warriors before returning home to host Regina on Saturday, have assigned 16-year old blueliner Riley Van Horne to the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Grande Prairie Storm and 17-year old center Quintin Lisoway has been recalled from the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Steinbach Pistons for the balance of the 2012-13 WHL season.
In 23 games with the Wheat Kings this season, the 6'1" 186 lb Van Horne had three assists and one minor penalty. The Calgary product was Brandon's fifth round selection (99th overall) in the 2011 Western League Bantam Draft.
Lisoway meanwhile has played ten games with the Wheat Kings this year, scoring once and adding an assist. With the Pistons, the 5'10" 185 lb. forward had 21 points including seven goals in 27 games.
The Neepawa product was a ninth round bantam selection of the Wheat Kings in 2010.
He is expected to join the WHL club in time for this weekend's games against the Warriors and Pats. Thursday night's moves, combined with the trades made earlier in the day leaves the Wheat Kings with 23 players on their active roster - two goalkeepers, seven defencemen and 14 forwards.
Tickets to Saturday's game are on sale at the Keystone Centre box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at www.keystonecentre.com
Earlier today, the Wheat Kings completed three deals before the WHL Trade Deadline. In addition to moving veteran left-winger Michael Ferland to Saskatoon for a first round bantam draft choice, Brandon acquired 18-year old St. Louis Blues' draft choice Nick Walters and the rights to 16-year old Yellowhead Chief Taylor Sanheim in exchange for 17-year old defenceman Ayrton Nikkel. As well, Brandon sent Swiss left-winger Alessio Bertaggia to the Spokane Chiefs in a deal that saw the Wheat Kings acquire a third and fifth round bantam draft choice, the rights to 16-year old Moose Jaw AAA Midget General Rhett Gardner and 19-year old Czech forward Marek Kalus.
