
WHA2 Celebrates the Holidays

CELEBRATION, Fla. â The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) today announced that each of the teams will take part in holiday celebrations that will benefit those less fortunate in their communities.
The Alabama Slammers have partnered up with the Marines in their "Toys for Tots" program. From now until December 20, "Toys for Tots" bins will be located throughout the lobby of the Pelham Civic Complex. Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to be distributed to needy children. In addition, on December 20, when the Slammers take on the Macon Trax, fans will be asked to bring a new teddy bear or stuffed animal. When the Slammers score their first goal, fans are asked to toss their teddy bears on to the ice.
The Lakeland Loggerheads are sharing the gift of hockey by giving free tickets to all children to their home games on December 5 and December 7. The Loggerheads also donated money to the Society of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) for Christmas in the name of the team. Lakeland will also host a Teddy Bear Toss at their home game on December 20. Finally, the Loggerheads are teaming up with 97 Country FM to host a "Toys for Tots" night on December 14. Fans are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate.
The Macon Trax got a jump on the holiday season and hosted their "Toys for Tots" night on November 28. The Trax and the Marines collected over 100 new toys and a $225 cash donation that was proceeds from a Trax raffle for different Trax team items. On December 13, the Trax will have their Teddy Bear Toss with all donated toys going to the "Kids Yule Love" charity.
The Miami Manatees climb aboard the "Toys for Tots" train and will have bins for donations at all home games beginning with the game on December 13 and running through December 19. The Manatees will also collect toys for "Toys for Tots" at their appearance at GameWorks on December 6. Children will have a chance to get their pictures taken with Manny Clause at home games on December 13 and 14.
The Orlando Seals will also host a Teddy Bear Toss on December 20 when the Jacksonville Barracudas come to play. On December 18 and December 20, Seals fans will be asked to donate a new, unwrapped toy for "Toys for Tots".
The WHA2 has six member teams for the 2003 â 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals. Each team will play a 60-game schedule. Every game will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
