WHA2 Announces Green Appointment
October 16, 2003 - SPHL (SPHL) News Release
CELEBRATION, Fla. â The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) announced today the appointment of Jenn Green to the position of Director of Community Relations for the WHA2.
Green will be responsible for coordinating the WHA2's charitable events at the league level as well as working with local and national charities on mutually beneficial partnerships.
"All of the teams in the WHA2 are committed to being responsible citizens in each of our cities by being involved with charities that are working to help those less fortunate then ourselves." David Waronker, WHA2 Co-founder and Chairman of the WHA2 Board of Governors, said.
"Jenn Green is the perfect person to take care of this at the league level and we are thrilled to have her. Her dedication and hard work since she came to the league office has been exemplary."
"Jenn has been a tremendous help over the past few months in our ongoing preparations for our inaugural season." President of Hockey Operations, Peter Young, said. "Now it's time to let her get out into our WHA2 cities and implement our extensive community relations and charitable programs."
Green graduated from the University of Central Florida in December 2002 with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in Communications. She was very active in organizing charity events for her sorority, Delta Gamma.
Green has "world hockey experience" as she has worked as a statistician at the 1997 World Junior Championships in Helsinki, Finland; as a floor director for play-by-play and commentary at the 1998 World Junior Championships in Winnipeg, Canada; and as a volunteer at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in Sunrise, Fla. She also was an assistant to NHL Radio producer Greg Baldinger for the 2000 NHL Playoffs in Buffalo and the 2001 NHL All-Star Game in Denver, Colorado.
"Having the opportunity to work with charities in a hockey league that promotes so much community interaction and fan-friendly players is really a dream come true for me." Green said. "I think that that is something about the sport that has been lost over the years. The guys that play in this league love hockey and they love to give back to the fans that support them."
The WHA2 will ice six teams for the 2003 â 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals. Each team will play a 60 game schedule beginning on November 6th. Every game will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
