Dayton Dutch Lions News Release

DAYTON, Ohio- Two additional players have made the trip from the Netherlands to Dayton to become members of the Dutch Lions' roster. Tjeerd Westdijk and Remco Klaasse arrived in Dayton on Monday after appearing on Sunday for HBS Craeyenhout in the Topklasse, the Second Division of Dutch soccer. Klasse, 24, and Westdijk, 25, have been teammates since the age of six except in 2009, when Klaasse played for ADO Den Haag of the Eredivisie, the premier professional soccer league in the Netherlands.

Westdijk (pictured second from right) was the leading goal scorer in Topklasse at the time of his departure for Dayton. He had notched 16 goals in 24 appearances for HBS Craeyenhout. Klaasse (second from left) had also contributed seven goals for HBS this season.

Regarding the signing of the Dutch duo, Assistant Coach Eric Tammer said that "Tjeerd and Remco have been playing together for so many years and, therefore, know how to find each other easily. They can both make a difference, which already showed last Tuesday against the University of Dayton. In his 25 minutes Remco scored two goals, and Tjeerd had an assist. It gives us a lot of options up front in addition to Swartzendruber, Garner, Bardsley, and Khutsidze."
