Westchester Knicks' Chance to Clinch Cut Short by Long Island Nets

UNIONDALE, NY - The Westchester Knicks (28-15), the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, lost a cross-suburbs battle with the Long Island Nets (24-19), falling 99-75 with only eight active players on its roster after back-to-back call-ups for two of the team's leading scorers, Xavier Rathan-Mayes and Nigel Hayes. With a win, Westchester would have clinched the first NBA G League Playoffs spot.

Guard Sekou Wiggs paced Westchester from the bench with 16 points, eight rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Forward Paul Watson finished with 12 points and five rebounds, guard Billy Garrett with 12 points and three each of rebounds and assists. Forward Zak Irvin fell just short of a double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds while Jordan Henriquez-Roberts supplied 11 points and six rebounds from the bench.

Nets affiliate Jeremy Senglin led all scorers in the game from Long Island's bench, posting 27 points with five each of assists and steals. Two-Way player Milton Doyle finished with 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists while his fellow Two-Way player James Webb III had eight each of points and rebounds. Nets affiliate Kamari Murphy supplied 13 rebounds with eight points; Isaiah Whitehead had eight points on assignment from Brooklyn.

'Twas a slow start for both teams, but slower for Westchester as the Nets began the game 6-0. The Knicks managed to catch up though, tying it halfway through and taking the lead with just under five minutes to go in the quarter. After trading buckets for the last few minutes, Westchester held a one-point advantage after one. The Knicks mirrored the Nets' start in the second quarter with a quick six points, ultimately going on a 10-2 run to take a nine-point lead. A nine-point deficit is where Long Island landed at the half, the home team only mustering 13 points in the quarter.

The third quarter belonged to Long Island as the Nets outscored the Knicks 28-14. Tying it up with 1:46 on the clock, Long Island then took the lead and put salt in Westchester's wound with a cross-court buzzer-beater from Nets forward Milton Doyle. Though seemingly impossible, things went even worse for the Knicks in the final quarter. The momentum from the exciting third quarter ending carried over into the fourth for Long Island as it amassed 36 points to Westchester's 17 to capture a 99-75 win.

The Westchester Knicks and Long Island Nets will face off again this Thursday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the historic Westchester County Center in White Plains. The game will be broadcast nationally on Eleven Sports Network and will be streamed live locally via Facebook Live .
