West Virginia Wild News Release

The West Virginia Wild has hired Romeo Lagmay, Jr. as their head basketball coach and general manager. Last year, the WV Wild played as a professional basketball team in the IBL as an exhibition status entry level. This year, the Wild is official to play in a league consisting over 25 teams nationally.

Coach "Romeo" as he prefers, is a former top assistant coach from WVU Tech men's basketball. He is currently a faculty member within the physical education department at Tech. Romeo brings over 9 years of coaching experience from every level.

"It was time for me to move on to something different and exciting," says Coach Romeo. This past summer Romeo Lagmay coached in the NBA's Summer Professional Basketball League held in Long Beach, California. He was an assistant coach specializing in player development and control. For the 2 ½ week league duration, his team lost in the championship game. "I love college basketball. I definitely miss it right now, and I'm sure I'll get back to it. But coaching professionally, that doesn't come around too often. I'm very excited and ready to go." The coaching staff has not been finalized as well as the player roster. Coach Romeo does plan to solidify the hiring of top assistant coach Ronald Beatty- a former coaching colleague and all-American at WVU Tech.

Coach Romeo is a native of Los Angeles, California, but is a current resident of West Virginia who resides in the Montgomery area. "I accepted this coaching opportunity from owner Daniel Hicks because I seen the potential this franchise has to offer to the city of Charleston and statewide. I am honored that the Wild has full confidence in me to represent this professional organization as a head coach and general manager. Our plan is to make a first-year immediate impact competing nationally."

This past weekend, the WV Wild participated in two Christmas parades- Montgomery and South Charleston. The Wild will be looking for support from the surrounding areas, and will be hosting free agent camps. Their first free agent tryout camp will be held on January 7th, 2006.
