West Texas Roughnecks Name Brian Brents as New Head Coach

MIDLAND, TX. : The West Texas Roughnecks are pleased to announce on Thursday, October 20 that Brian Brents has been named Head Coach of the West Texas Roughnecks for the upcoming 2012 season. A native of Crane, Texas, Brian Brents played wide receiver at Abilene Christian University and completed his degree at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. As a previous member of the Odessa Roughnecks Coaching Staff, Brents helped build the Roughnecks into a playoff-caliber team in 2004. He returned to the Roughnecks Coaching Staff in 2005 as the Offensive Coordinator and became a major contributor toward a Roughnecks team that finished the regular season undefeated, and with a 16-1 overall record.

"Brian is a very experienced coach of the indoor football game, and success has followed him with every team he has worked with during his coaching career. We have no doubt that he is going to do a great job of working to bring a championship back to the organization." stated West Texas Roughnecks Team Owner & General Manager Dale Morris.

Prior to becoming the Head Coach of the West Texas Roughnecks, Brents was the Head Coach of the El Paso Generals, formerly of the Indoor Football League, in 2009. Brents led the Generals to a 12-2 regular season record, the Lone Star Division Championship, and an appearance in the Conference Championship Game in 2009. El Paso led the IFL in passing offense and finished second in points per game during the 2009 regular season. Following the 2009 season, Brents was named the Indoor Football League Coach of the Year.

Brents spent 2007 & 2008 serving as Head Coach of the Mississippi Mudcats of the AIFA. In 2007 Brents led the Mudcats to a 12-4 regular season record including a trip to the AIFA South Conference Championship Game. Brents and the Mudcats Coaching Staff were selected to coach the AIFA South All-Star Team following the 2007 season. Brents would lead the Mudcats to a 12-1 record during the 2008 regular season.

Throughout his career Brents has coached 24 All-Conference players and six All-Americans. He has had four players move on to the CFL, six players move on to the AFL, and one player move up the ranks to the NFL. Brian Brents currently coaches at Bowie Junior High School in Odessa.
