West Oahu CaneFires News Release

West Oahu racked up 14 hits and used a three-run seventh inning to get by North Shore, 7-6, tonight at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park.

Mark Hallberg hit a two-run single in the home half of the seventh to tie the game at 6-6, and ensuing batter Chris Hatcher drove in Cyle Hankerd with an infield single to put the CaneFires ahead for good.

Hallberg led West Oahu with three hits and three RBIs while Hatcher and Hankerd each notched two hits and two RBIs.

The Honu (6-11) brought the game's first run across in the fourth inning as Matt McBride plated Ryan Kalish, who reached on a bunt single to start the inning, on a single to left field. Ensuing batter Yamaico Navarro doubled to center field, and brought home Jason Castro and McBride to put North Shore ahead, 3-0.

Hankerd got the CaneFires on the board in the home half of the fourth with a two-out single to score Tyler Henson who had doubled to lead off the frame.

Hatcher hit his second home run in as many nights, a solo shot in the fifth inning to pull West Oahu to within a run of the lead, 3-2.

However, the Honu answered with a run in the sixth when Corey Brown plated Navarro on a sacrifice fly to center field. North Shore increased its lead with two runs in the seventh to go ahead 6-4, but West Oahu's rally nixed the effort.

West Oahu (9-8) reliever Harrison Bishop earned the win and Moises Robles tossed a perfect ninth inning to earn his second save of the season.

Dustin Richardson surrendered three runs on three hits, and the Honu reliever fell to 0-1.

The squads return to Hans L'Orange Park tomorrow at 1 p.m. for the finale of a three-game set.
